Thunderbirds finalize their coaching staff for the upcoming season

Head Coach Jeremy LeBlanc has secured three new assistant coaches for the 2021-22 season. Michael Joseph, Daniel MacLeod, and John Alexander have been confirmed and will join Jeremy and Samuel Bastille on the U16 AAA Moncton Thunderbirds staff.

 

Michael Joseph recently completed his studies at ST. FX with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Minor in Sports Management. He is a former member of the U15 AAA Moncton Hawks and U18 Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers. He recently transitioned from player to coach having been an assistant coach of the U15 AAA Novas in Antigonish, Nova Scotia for the past two seasons and was also commissioner of all three St.FX Intramural Hockey Leagues.

 

“I am extremely excited to come back home and work with the U16 AAA Moncton Thunderbirds. With the new direction of the organization I think we offer a unique opportunity for any hockey player around the greater Moncton area who is looking to improve his game. After coaching two years at the U15 AAA level I am thrilled to make the jump up and have a big role in the growth of our team on and off the ice. I’m also eager to help prepare our players reach the next level as a team and as individuals in the future.” said Joseph.

 

Daniel MacLeod is a former member of the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats and Acadie-Bathurst Titan.  After his time in the Q, he suited up for the Saint Mary’s Huskies the AUS. Daniel is also heavily involved coaching ringette at the provincial level and is passionate about teaching our next generation of athletes. He previously coached in the Moncton Minor Hockey Association and with the Jr B Kent Koyotes. His experience will be extremely valuable to our organization.

 

“Joining the Thunderbirds will allow me to give back what the game of hockey gave me for so many years. The organization has assembled a great young coaching staff and it will be an honor for me to support them throughout the season. I’m passionate about hockey and a student of the game. I’m looking forward for the upcoming season” said MacLeod.

 

John Alexander brings over 25 years of experience as a goaltending coach at the Minor Hockey, Junior A & University level. 

 

In addition to his position as president of Alexander Goaltending, he works as a Private Consultant providing technical evaluations of goaltenders playing at all levels to coaches, recruiters & scouts.


He also advises & mentors several elite goaltenders. 
His son David is the goaltending coach and a Stanley Cup winner with the NHL St. Louis Blues.

 

 “I’m truly excited to join the Thunderbirds and to share my passion for teaching with younger goaltenders. I believe, because of the uniqueness of the position, their development must be a collaborative effort as we work together in the pursuit of their passion. Through hard work & dedication, I’m confident our goaltenders will continue their development path and reach the next levels” said John.
